Laying Hens
Most ex-battery hens fall into this category and breeds that are in their first year or later of laying. The seller should be able to advise on the producing number of eggs of the chicken at this age. As chickens become older the number of eggs will likely
fall although high-yielding hybrids may continue to lay a satisfactory number of eggs if correctly fed well beyond the first year.
Young Birds
Chickens that have adult feathers and no longer require outside heat in the form of lamps to provide sufficient warmth are around the 10 week old region.
